January Recap

It's Tuesday, the last day of the month, and I'm going to recap January! If you've missed some posts, here's where you can catch up on all of the fun stuff!

First, I've really been working on practicing my lettering and faux calligraphy, as seen above!  A little shakey, but practice makes perfect, right?

I brought in the new year with some awesome friends and spent the day with my pretty amazing family!

I started the year out by choosing a word for 2017. My word is JOY.  I felt like I did pretty well with my word for 2016, so I continued again for this year.

I held my 3rd Anuual Friendsmas Party with a group of my closest friends. This group was with me on my 1st Friendsmas, so I've kept the same guest list. We did a Favorite Things Party this year, and I can't wait to do another one!

I shared a few recipes this month, including one for Taco Dip

And my favorite chili recipe.

Yesterday I shared the books I've read this month, and my review of each.

I'm still reading The One Year Bible, although I missed yesterday, so I will double up tonight.

I shared 17 goals for 2017, and hope to continue to work towards those!

We celebrated my sweet friend, Melinda's, birthday in January and had fun shopping, eating, and drinking (Starbucks)!

And I attended a super fun painting party at Chick-fil-a that featured a BUFFET! Highlight of my entire month, right there!

I got to spend a lot of time with this sweet girl. Anytime with her and my nephew is always a plus!

I did a lot of linkups this month; I love linkups if you haven't noticed!
10 on the 10th: 10 Random Facts- this seems to be a favorite type of post for my readers!

I checked out my stats to see what my most popular post for January was, and it was the recipe I shared for Mac N Cheese back in December! Apparently, people are still coming over and checking it out!

I'm ending the month with a little giveaway too. Check out yesterday's post on my book reviews, and see what I'm giving away in that post!

I've just had the best month you guys! Here's to hoping the rest of 2017 is as good as January has been to me!

January Book Reviews & A Giveaway!

It's the end of the month, which means it is time for me to share what books I've read this month and what I thought about them here today!

The Magnolia Story
by Chip and Joanna Gaines

Technically I finished this at the end of December, but not in time to make it on my review post. And I loved it so so much that I had to share it with you guys! I'm a huge fan of Chip and Joanna (like the rest of the entire nation), so I was really excited to get this for Christmas. I wanted to hear their story and see how it all began. Not only did they share their beginning, but they were so real. They shared all of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Their struggles before their big break with Fixer Upper.

I can't recommend this book enough; I finished it in two nights! So good!

5 stars!

Don't You Cry
by Mary Kubica

I'm a big fan of Mary Kubica; she is a genius at twists and shocking endings! Remember The Good Girl I read last year, and I dubbed it the best book of 2016? I think because of that, I was a little disappointed with this one. It kept going and going and I was just ready for it to end.  It wasn't bad, it just wasn't nearly as good as The Good Girl

I give this one 2/5 stars.

Giddy Up Eunice
by Sophie Hudson

Oh Sophie, girl you can write a book! I've also talked about Sophie Hudson a number of times. She's a blogger and Christian author, and I loved her book, A Little Salty To Cut The Sweet, that I read last year. This book is about the power and importance of friendships between women. This was heavy on references from women in the Bible, and I'm ashamed to say it, but I thought there was a little too much referencing. I much prefer the stories Sophie tells from her life. And don't get me wrong, she does that a lot too! The deeper I got into the book, the more I enjoyed it, though. Sophie just does such a good job of storytelling and making you laugh with the most simple of stories. She has a gift, y'all.

3/5 stars! Only because I loved her book, A Little Salty to Cut The Sweet, and it's so hard to compare to that!

Friday Faves

Happy Friday! Anyone else just relieved that it's almost the weekend and we get a break? Just me?
Via

I spent last Friday night with these sweet friends. We celebrated Melinda's birthday with some Red Lobster, Target, and Starbucks. We've all been friends since Kindergarten. Some years we weren't as close, but that friendship never failed. Love these girls!

I made this soup Tuesday night, and have been eating on it for lunch this week. It's so yummy, and the best part? SO EASY! If you missed it yesterday, find the recipe here!

I got some new LuLaRoe leggings this week! These fun feather ones, and wait for it..... a pair of solid black! Those are so dang hard to find, so as soon as I saw one of my reps had a pair, I typed SOLD like a mad woman and ended up winning them! Score!

Wednesday night is reserved for church and then Mexican. I look forward to this night all week. Love my church family! And cheese dip!

We've made a few changed at work, and adding this chalk board was one of them. I got to practice my lettering, and pretty much nailed it on the first attempt. Not perfect, but I've had a few compliments on it from men, so that's something!

I got to take this silly girl out last night for a little aunt/niece time. We had Italian, some chocolate cake, and a little stroll through her favorite store: Kmart! She keeps me laughing, and I just love her little face. She's a hoot. She's 4 going on 24!

My week has been pretty uneventful compared to last week, but it's been a good one! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Mel's Easy Chili

Sharing my super duper, quick and easy chili recipe today. This is my go-to because I can leave it in the crockpot overnight and by morning the flavor is so so good!

The best part? Not many ingredients! If you're like me, a lot of ingredients overwhelm me and I usually just skip over the recipe. This one only has like 6, and the only thing you have to prepare is the hamburger meat!

Ingredients
-1 can hot chili beans
-1 can kidney beans
-1 can diced tomatoes
-1 sweet yellow onion, chopped
-1 lb. hamburger meat
-1 packet of chili seasoning
-1/2 can water
-salt to taste
-noodles, optional

 Directions
First, brown the hamburger meat. You can season the meat if you want in this step with some garlic powder, salt, etc. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

While the hamburger is browning, chop the onions.

Put your beans, tomatoes, onions, meat, and seasoning in the crockpot and mix it really well.

I usually cook mine overnight on low, so that when I wake up in the morning, I can put in a bowl for lunch at work. However, this could cook all day and be ready for you when you get home!

Save this image to Pinterest so you can find it easily!
This chili is seriously so easy and it really does have a lot of flavor, despite not having a ton of ingredients. If you try it, I'd love for you to let me know what you think!

Do you have a favorite chili recipe? Share it below!

Look! I even added a recipe card of the chili. Right click, save, and print right from your computer!

What's Up Wednesday: January Edition

Happy Wednesday!

It's the last Wednesday of the month, so I'm here to share with you what I've been up to in a variety of different areas. Sit back, enjoy your coffee, and read a bit.

Eating
I may or may not have bought two bags of candy at Target last week. I'm so ashamed. I actually had half of one of the bags left and just threw it away this morning. And some of the strawberry marshmallows. Don't worry, I'm keeping the peanut butter M&Ms though. #FindControl

Reminiscing About
My niece as a baby. I've been getting a lot of pictures of her from 2 and 3 years ago, and I just can't believe how much she has changed. I'm sure time will fly by with her brother too. #KeepThemLittle

Loving
My new Toms wedges. I got the black ones for Christmas, and bought the cheetah ones with Christmas money. Obsessed! I wear them all day, and my feet don't hurt one bit. #Cuteandcomfy

Been Up To
Last week was super busy! I had a paint party, church, book club, birthday dinner and shopping trip. That might explain falling asleep at 630 Monday night. This week is much quieter!

Dreading
I can't really think of anything I'm dreading. That's good, right?

Working On
Still working on not drinking soda. It's hard y'all. I have broken down and had 1 a week (usually on the weekend), and let me tell you, it's been the best darn soda I've ever had. I'm not necessarily drinking a lot of water, I'm just not drinking soda.

Excited About
Hmmm. Not really sure about this either. Nothing exciting coming up.....

Watching
As usual for this time of year, UK basketball. This is a fun group to watch, but they don't always play like a team. Makes it frustrating for fans!
Via

Also watching This is Us, Real Housewives, Pump Rules, and waiting for Greys and How to Get Away with Murder to return!

Reading
Just finished Giddy Up Eunice for my book club. Now reading Lauren Graham's (Lorelei from Gilmore Girls) book, Someday, Someday, Maybe

Listening To
XM radio. I'm honestly thinking about cancelling it because I can never find anything I like on there. 90s on 9 isn't even doing it for me lately.

Wearing
Still in my leggings, tops, and sweaters.

There's those Toms again!

Doing This Weekend
We have a family gathering on Saturday afternoon. Food and catching up.

Looking Forward To Next Month
Well, let me tell you what I'm not looking forward to, Valentine's Day! It's so depressing for us single girls! Boo.

What else is new?
The weather. It's been 60s for weeks. In January. I am not a fan. It's winter, and I want to wear my furry boots and sweaters and scarves. Get it together, Kentucky!
