September Recap

Even though I've done the What's Up Wednesday post and my September Book Reviews post this week, I do still like writing a monthly recap so I can remember all the good stuff that happened every month. Since today is the last day of the month, it's only fitting I share with you my favorites from September. And if you've missed anything, it's a good way for you to catch up in one spot!

I started September off with family at my parent's lake house for Labor Day. We rode the pontoon and jet ski, we grilled out, we ate s'mores, and just had the best time together.

I started the Blog-tember challenge, and while I didn't blog every single prompt, or even many for that matter, it was still fun to link up with others, and gave me some good ideas for when I was stumped.

Here are the prompts I participated in:
12: 3 books

I gave you all another Home Tour.

I ate a lot of terribly yummy food with friends and family.

I stepped out of my comfort zone and had fun with my wardrobe. Follow me on Instagram to see more! (@melanie_ks)

I stepped even further out of my bubble and did something I hate doing: I started exercising. Barre is SO challenging, but I love that even me, the laziest person on the planet, can work it for me.

 I relaxed by coloring.

I had the best tacos I've ever put into my mouth courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings. Yep.

I got to spend some weekends snuggling on the couch with my little nugget. I am gone so much, I think my little doggy liked me being home for once.

I indulged in my favorite candy- holiday shaped candy bars! Why are they so much better?

I took the coloring one step further and attended a painting class with Meg.

I drove until I absolutely had to stop for gas, because who enjoys pumping gas? Just call me a rebel.

My heart went pitter-patter when we had true fall temps.

I read some really good books, and even talked about them yesterday.

I voted NO to making our county wet. Yes. We only have alcohol and liquor sales in restaurants. But it passed so soon sales will be in stores too.

I started teaching 4th-6th grade Sunday School class at my church.

I just had the best time in September, and I know October will be just as fun!

September Book Reviews

I've been on a reading kick lately, and I'm so glad to be back in the groove, so to speak.

Today I thought I'd share with you what I've been reading this month and how I liked or disliked the books I read. Hopefully you will find something that intrigues you. :)

A Little Salty To Cut The Sweet
by Sophie Hudson

I just finished Sophie Hudson's Home Sweet Home Collection, and you all, she is so so good! I've mentioned Hudson in several posts, but I just love her that much. You all must check her out.

The collection includes two of Sophie's books.
A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet is a book about Sophie's family. Anecdotes from her life to make you cry and laugh and want to be part of Sophie's crazy, southern family. Little stories with a lot of faith and even more humor thrown in. I laughed throughout the whole book. So so good.

by Sophie Hudson

Home is Where My People Are is Sophie's journey across the deep south as a youngster, college gal, newlywed, and seasoned mom. It's about the relationships she has in each of her homes, and how they influenced her throughout her life. This one has a little more faith and just as much humor as A Little Salty. If you're looking for a feel-good book, choose one, or both, of these!

by Emily Giffin

Depressing. That's the word that comes to mind when I think of what I read when I finished this book. The two protagonists, Josie and Meredith, are not likable whatsoever. The book is basically how their family member's death affects their entire life. You see these sisters in a couple of weeks in their life and let me just say, it's all depressing. The characters, the plot, the climax. Nothing exciting. Nothing extraordinary. Just kind of blah. While I think the "writing" was pretty good, the plot just wasnt. I kept reading to see what the big secret was, and even it was boring. Sorry, friends. I just don't recommend this one.

I do want to note that my fellow book club ladies loved it. They thought it was cute and ended well. So there ya go. Everyone has different opinions, and you may actually like this book!

by M.L. Stedman

I've had this on my To-Read list for awhile now, but as soon as I saw previews for the release of the movie, I knew I had to read it first.

I absolutely loved this book. I kept waiting for the climax to come, and thoroughly enjoyed the process. I loved learning about Tom and why he's so quiet and reserved, and about Isabel, who is so full of life and energy. Their story is almost sweet, despite their losses. And when the result of their actions causes much strife, you still root for them. For all of them- Tom, Isabel, and Hannah, the baby's biological mother.

Stedman, as a writer, is magnificent. She develops the characters very well, the plot is interesting and keeps you wanting to read more, and the level of writing is perfect. I cant say enough good about this book.

With finishing The Light Between Oceans, I have finished my Goodreads Reading Challenge. At the beginning of the year, I decided I wanted to read 20 books this year. I completed that in September! Woohoo!

What's Up Wednesday

How in the heck are we already at the end of September?!? You guys. Holy smokes. I won't even tell you how many weeks until Christmas because it would make me want to crawl under my desk.

Here's what I've been up to this month...

What I'm Eating
I'm basically on a rotation; Monday nights are Cracker Barrel nights and Wednesday nights are Garcia's Mexican nights.

Yes, I go to CB at least once a week. Because biscuits!

What I'm Reminiscing About
Already missing the lake. :(

What I'm Loving
This week finally hit Fall temps and I'm obsessed. Sweaters and scarves and boots, oh my!

What I've Been Up To
Oh just spending money like it grows in my back yard. Fall shows and festivals are my downfall. Also thinking of Christmas lists, because I need to start NOW! I have 4 gifts bought and so many more to go...

What I'm Dreading
Can I dread Barre and still look forward to it?

What I'm Working On
Blogging! I've really made an effort to blog more, and I really do enjoy it.

What I'm Excited About
Everything Fall!

What I'm Watching
Fall TV is on and I'm so excited! I watched "This is Us" and "Designated Survivor" and I'm ready for new episodes of "Greys Anatomy" and "Scandal" and "The Walking Dead".

What I'm Reading
Simply Tuesday by Emily P. Freeman

Come back tomorrow to see my September Book review!

What I'm Listening To
Talking Body
I know it's an older song but I have it on repeat!

What I'm Wearing
Lots of leggings and LuLaRoe and layers and colors

What I'm Doing This Weekend
Barre and a little marketplace that a girl I know is hosting.

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month
My birthday! There is no better day in the year than your birthday, because it's all about you!

What Else is New
I've been going to Barre Co for the  past few weeks. It's so hard, y'all. And I can't do so much of what everyone else is doing. But I modify it for me and I push myself to my limit. That's why I like doing it. You can make it as hard as you want for those super fit people, and alter it for people like me who are just starting out. I've got a long way to go, but you have to start somewhere, right?

Bonus: My Favorite Fall Recipe
Potato Soup
I'm still looking for the recipe, so hopefully I can find it and share with you guys soon
