These are my obsessions...

These are my obsessions....
Except as I wrote that title, I totally sang it to the tune of Usher's "These are my confessions...." Now you have it stuck in your head too? You're welcome.

I'm completely jumping on the new little blog bandwagon and sharing with you the obsessions I have according to my friends and family. Don't know what I'm talking about? First, Mama & Mou did it. Then Not Entirely Perfect. Then Erin, and now I'm all like, "I have to do it too because it sounds so fun." (Picture me saying that in Amy Schumer's voice while waving my hands around, because that's how it happened.

When I asked my friends to give me 3-5 things that they think I'm obsessed with, it was like I had given them the adult version of the ACT. I got calls and texts saying, "In what context? What will this be used for? What do you mean? Are these what you're looking for?" My friends are so serious, right?

And y'all. The answers were all over the place. I giggled on many of these, but most of them are so accurate. Just wait.

Purses
9/11 people said purses. I can't imagine why. It could be because I'm constantly looking for a good deal on a Kate or a Michael. Bargains are my friends. My besties, if you will.

Shopping- 5/10
Because duh. I'm surprised this wasn't 10/10.

Jewelry- 4/10 (Silpada 1/10)
I sell Silpada, and always have at least 10 pounds of it on- earrings, necklace, bracelets, rings...you name it, I'm wearing it.

Shoes- 3/10
Seriously. No matter what size you are, shoes always fit. That's why I love them.

Unlike the bloggers I mentioned above, most of my folks were not saying the same things about me; which just confirms that I'm all over the place and apparently, a hot mess.

Here's what else came up- good food, puppies, my dog Mia, home decor, the movie Bridesmaids- I watch every time it's on tv!, world piece- hahahahaha, leopard print, reading, friends, my appearance, where people live, my family and niece, clothes, Netflix, changing cars, and social media.

Even though there were tons of different answers, I'd say these crazy cats were spot on.

What do you think I'm obsessed with?

Favorite Summer Shoes {a linkup}

I had another post planned for today, but as soon as I saw Erika and Andrea talking about shoes, I had to join in.

Booties
My favorite shoe purchase of this summer has been these little booties. I love the cut outs on the side. I love the little peep toe. I love that they zip in the back making them super easy to get one and comfortable to wear. I'm not one to spend a lot of money on shoes that I'm not sure if I will like, so I found these at Target for under $30. That's a major score in my book compared to the $120 I was looking at.

{Merona Maddie Perforated Chop Out Booties}

T-Strap Sandals
I've had these Xappeal sandals for years, and I probably need to buy a new pair, but they are still so comfy! I think I bought them at one of those shoe stores in the mall and they were super cheap, so I scooped them up.

Similar: Sam Edelman; Xappeal; AE

Blingy Sandals
Ok. I take it back. These are my favorite shoe purchase of this summer. Both of the black flats that I wear constantly were worn completely out, so I looked for something with a little bling. I found these at Dillards and ordered them right away. Lucky you, they are on final clearance! Aren't they great?

Classic Flip Flops
While they are not comfortable at all for walking a lot, I wear these constantly around the house, to the lake, on errands. They're simple and go with practically everything.

Some of these may not be my absolute favorite shoes, but they are the ones that get the most wear. I actually love wedges more than one should, but rarely wear them anymore since I work with all men in a collision center and sit behind a desk. And that whole spraining both ankles at the same time has made me a little wary about wearing heels. You can read about that ordeal here. Not fun!

What are you favorite summer shoes?

Twitter Faves Week 10

One may say I'm a bit obsessed with social media, and twitter could be at the top of the list. I love sharing my favorite twitter people with you guys because I love a good tweet. Here's my faves of the week.

I struggle with this constantly. It's good to have a reminder that it's in His time. Not mine.

I've loved watching the NBA Draft the past few years because KY always has players to be drafted. We had 6 this year. 6!

Seriously. When this pops up, it usually means I have to get my big butt up and find the remote and declare "YES! I'm still sitting on my ass watching Netflix! Quit judging me!"

Oh my word. I've said this for years. I'm not jealous of you. I just don't like you. There's a difference.

Nope. I love me a soda. However, I prefer a McDonalds coke. Sometimes ya just gotta do it.

I love the Chrisleys. I love the little kid who just wants Linda to listen.

Who are your favorite tweeters? (Is that a word?) I'd love some funny folks to follow!

Life Lately

As I was looking at my instagram feed, I saw so many things I wanted to share with you guys. So here's my life lately, courtesy of my instagram photos. And if you aren't following me on there, why not??? Do it already! @melanie_ks

Ready?

If you haven't tried these, you are seriously missing out. Holy yumminess.

Silpada is having their biggest sale ever! 40% of sterling silver, brass, turquoise, lapis, and pearl items. Lifetime guarantee. 60 day exchange time frame. I seriously love this stuff!

I just finished Lisa Terkeurst's book, The Best Yes. It talks about learning to say no to things that doesn't fit in your life right now. And not feeling guilty about it. I loved this passage. I need to print it out and hang it in my house. "Refuse to get all tangled up and held back by what you don't know." How many times has fear of the unknown stopped me from doing something? Love this passage so much!

VBS was last week, and I loved every second of it. I taught the K-2 class and some of the preschoolers came over. Surprisingly to me, I loved this age. I loved teaching them about Jesus. We had lots of fun activities and stories, and I'm so thankful I got to do this. I think I got more out of this week than those kids did.

I've been trying to sell this bag for a few months. I've had it sold 3 different times. 3!!!! to people on ebay and Poshmark, and they've all backed out. I feel like I'm cursed with this purse. And I love it! I do love the bag. It's in perfect condition, but something about it makes people think they can buy it and then not pay. Not cool, people.

Life finally calmed down enough on Monday afternoon for me to get a pizza and watch a few episodes of the new season of Orange is the New Black. I'm anxious to see the twists and turns that this season holds.

I got my newest US Weekly in the mail on Monday and one of the articles was about the release of Holly Madison's book on her time spent at the Playboy Mansion and on the show, Girls Next Door. The small excerpt spoke of lots of secrets that were finally going to be revealed. I saw it last night at Target, and had to have it. I'm not even ashamed.

So there's my life lately. What have y'all been up to?

I Don't Understand.....

This may be a hugely un-popular post, but I'm okay with that. There are so many things that I just don't understand. So many things that people do that I don't understand. Read the post and let me know if I'm just over-reacting or if you, like me, just don't understand.

- I don't understand the "Oh my gosh, guys, I'm drinking so much" posts. I don't have any qualms with having a drink, or two, or three. Have at it. I mean I like an occasional glass of wine or daiquiri or margarita. Whatever.

What I don't understand is grown women bragging about how much they've been drinking, how hungover they are, how every picture they post is with a drink. You're an adult. You can do what you want. But why do you think bragging about it is cute or cool?

- Every day selfies. I just don't get it. You look exactly the same as you did yesterday. Exactly. Same hair style. Same make up. Same everything. Go ahead with your occasional selfies. But daily? Someone is being a little attention whore, amiright?

- "I slept with him." I know someone that tells us every time she sees someone she has slept with. And let me just say, she's seen a lot of people. Ahem. But that's not what this post is about. What happened to the whole don't kiss and tell thing? I mean it doesn't bother me. It's her business. But I don't understand the whole using it as a bragging tool.  Who you let dip into your lady bits is your business. Not mine. Because I just don't care. If you can't tell, I'm not into bragging.

-Posting the same person as your #mcm and #wcw every single week. You're dating. We can assume that he/she is your crush. There is no need to post the same person every week.

Am I right or just being annoyed too easily?

What do you not understand?

You probably don't know....

You probably don't know, but I'm a major extrovert-introvert. An ambivert, if you will.

Most people don't know this, but...
  • Meeting new people terrifies me.
  • I hate small-talk.
  • I get nervous super easily.
  • The idea of starting new jobs or relationships scare me.
  • I don't like huge get-togethers, even with family.
  • In fact, I always dread them.
  • Talking in front of adult groups is always nerve-wracking.
  • I'm always afraid they will think something bad.
But most people don't know this. Heck, even my friends think I'm a total basketcase when I tell them how I feel like I'm an introvert.

Here's why-
  • I'm loud.
  • I'm super talkative
  • I love hanging out with my friends, and am always looking for something to do.
  • I'm always ready for game-night or everyone meeting for dinner. (As long as it's a small group.)
  • I end up having a lot of fun at things I dread.
  • Some may even call me the "funny" one, or the life of the party.
  • I love making people laugh.
I was in an interview once in a room full of people I've never met. The principal asked me what one of my weaknesses was. I told him Im shy, and get really nervous around people and kind of clam up. The entire group laughed, and the principal goes, "yeah right!" No one ever believes that I feel shy.

Ya know that saying, fake it til ya make it? That's what I do sometimes. Sometimes I tell myself to just go with it, and I'm comfortable. Most of the time, though, in my head, I'm shy. It just doesn't come off that way, apparently.

This buzzfeed article pretty much sums it all up. And with cute little gifs too. (I still don't know if it's pronounced Jif, like the peanut butter, or Gif, like a gift but without the t. Anyone? Bueller?)

Then I read this article, "On Ambiverts", and it is me to a T.

And then I took this quiz, and oh look!

Are You An Introvert, Ambivert, Extrovert, Or Shy?
Your Result: Ambivert
You are an ambivert. You are in-between an introvert and an extrovert. You like hanging out with your friends, but you also like doing things by yourself.
Shy
Extrovert
Introvert

I'm an ambivert. I told you.

What are you? Introvert, extrovert, or ambivert?

Zzzzz

Excuse while I doze off at my desk and possibly drool on my keyboard.

I am beyond exhausted.

You see, I'm helping with VBS this week at my church. And it is kicking my butt. We've only completed two days, the kickoff party on Sunday night and the first night of class last night, but it has worn me out. Working 8-9 hours, then immediately going to church with a bunch of crazy kids for 4 hours is way more than I'm used to.  I can't imagine how I'm going to be dragging by the end of the week, but it is so much fun, and I know it is completely worth it.

So while you all are working away, I'll be over here with toothpicks holding up my eyelids.

While I'm sleeping, you should enter my giveaway. I don't know why I'm not keeping this for myself, but I'm giving away this super cute little neon floral clutch from everyone's favorite store- Target.

Currently: June Edition

I know you're dying to know what I've been up to. I understand why you're so obsessed with me.

Reading: The Best Yes by Lysa Terkeurst

Shay Shull aka Mix & Match Mama had introduced this on her blog last year and something about it spoke to me. I found it on sale at a local Christian bookstore recently, and thought it was a sign. I bought it and am in the middle of it now. So far, I love it. I've even copied a page or two and highlighted for my mom, whom I thought would benefit from the message.

Listening to: Everything. Here's a pic of my current playlist.

My faves are See You Again, Fight Song, and Like I'm Gonna Lose You.
Side note: I don't watch videos. Like ever, but I watched the See You Again video to link it here, and not gonna lie, I got a little teary-eyed. Such a great song for Paul Walker's part/passing in the Fast & Furious movies.

Wearing: Anything light & airy. It's been in the 90s around here recently, and I hate it. I hate hot weather. Unless I'm on a boat or my happy a$$ is sitting in the sand with the ocean a few feet in front of me, I don't want none of your heat. When it's 3 feet of snow and 10 degrees outside, you won't catch me complaining.

Watching:
Friday Night Lights on Netflix. I'm getting ready to begin the last season, and I'm sad that I won't see Matt or Tim or Tammy again. They are so good. And I love/hate that the series is a short series.

Needing: My clothes from last year to fit. Y'all. Everything is TIGHT! Why can't I be one of those skinny biotches naturally?

Wanting: Something sweet. Like a Butterfinger.

Avoiding: Cleaning. I could write my name in dust on my furniture. I hate cleaning.

Looking forward to: packing up and heading to Kansas City for Silpada FAB. I can't say Missouri has ever been on my bucket list, but I've never been and I'm anxious to cross this state off my list. Not to even mention all of the fun stuff that comes along with FAB. See ya in July, Show Me State!

Feeling: Great! I had been down the past few days because I let the actions of others get to me. But ya know what? They aren't worth it. They aren't worth me worrying or being down or being upset. So good riddance!

What is it About the Wrecking Ball?

I'm trying to figure out why, all of a sudden, a wrecking ball has become so popular in music.

We all know Miley made it popular with her weird ride a few years ago.

Now Eric Church has a song of the same name.

And again, my current favorite song, Fight Song, by Rachel Platten, includes the ole wrecking ball reference too.

And it makes me wonder, what is it about a wrecking ball that all of these artists want to sing about it?

Kind of like Michelle Pfeiffer all of a sudden. She's in tons of songs. This article  by Carly Mallenbaum even wrote a similar article about it a few months ago.

Where do these artist get their ideas? Why Michelle Pfeiffer and not JLO? Why a wrecking ball and not a sledge hammer?

Maybe "I came in like a sledge hammer" just didn't have the right ring to it.

Let It Go

I've been struggling lately with how people treat me. I let it bother me and bother me, and I feel like it's all I talk about. All I worry about. And there's absolutely nothing I can do about how they act towards me. So worrying is kind of pointless, right?

How do you get past something that consumes you?

Meet Lucy

Remember last week when I sold Stella, that cute little black Ford Edge? Well the same night, I drove 2 hours to meet Lucy. And it was an instant friendship.

Isn't she just the cutest little thing?

Love her!

Twitter Faves 9.0

I'm so over this week. So over it! But instead of being all negative about the week, let's be positive that it's Friday and the frickin' weekend!

Time for week 9! Read my favorite tweets of the week!

I love these posts in US Weekly! I will be doing one next week. No, not in the magazine, but on this blog.

I think this constantly. People can be terrible.

Me. Daily. This is why Amy is my spirit animal.

This girl is a hoot. Love her.

And shout outs always make me super happy, so of course they are my fave!

Happy Friday, friends!

When I Grow Up...

I love a good link-up. I really do. And when I see some of my favorite bloggers sharing their secrets, well then of course I want to jump on board!

Cute little Andrea from Momfessionals hosts a Show & Tell Tuesday, and I love reading the posts. Today's topic is When I Grow Up....and we're sharing things we wanted to be/do when we grew up.

These are good. Get ready.

Teacher

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. I would set up classroom in my grandmothers spare bedroom, complete with a desk (or card table), white boards taped to the closet doors, stacks of worksheets, and math and English on the board.

Imagine my surprise when I actually became a teacher and it wasn't at all what I imagined. Read about my teaching story here and part 2 here.

Radio DJ

At this same grandmother's house, I would play music, then record myself on those tapes giving the listener information on the weather, news, and what singer was coming up next. Good times.

Actress

I was convinced I would become a daytime soap opera actress. I would watch all of the ABC shows with my Mom, and just knew I would one day be discovered and ask to come play a part in the Quartermane, Jones, or Spencer family.

Pizza Maker

I always wanted to be the girl in Pizza Hut or Papa Johns that swirled the sauce on the pizza and dramatically threw the toppings on the pizza. I was 5.

Register Worker at Grocery Store

Again, at the same grandmother's house (mentioned above), I would pretend to scan groceries on the kitchen table and bag them. This usually happened when we came home from the grocery. I would unbag everything, put it all on the table, and scan the items and bag them. This was so much fun when you were 7. I never worked in a grocery store, but I did work at Kmart in high school, and it was no where near as fun as at my Nanny's table. Not fun at all.

TV Chef

When I was a little older (early teens), I decided I wanted to be a tv show chef, like Rachel Ray or Paula Deen. I couldn't tell you now who I even watched cook on tv, it was the 90s, but I'm sure they were fabulous. I was get in my Nanny's kitchen (I was there every single weekend), get my ingredients, and explain to the audience how to make meatballs, or homemade pizza, or spaghetti. I was a natural in front of that imaginary camera.

I posted a similar post last year. Read here.

If you want to participate in today or future Show & Tell Tuesdays, here are the future topics.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I'm Not Southern

While the majority of people would consider Kentucky to be "southern", I'm pretty certain I am not as southern as most of the people that I live around. Believe it or not, I've even been asked where I lived before moving here, since I "obviously" wasn't a born and bred KY girl. (I am, by the way.)

1. I don't own a gun. Heck, I've never even shot a gun.

2. I don't attend football games in dresses and pearls. I think it's just stupid.
Photo via

3. I don't like grits.
Photo via

4. I don't own camo.

5. Or seersucker.
Photo via

6. I don't hunt. Never have before.

7. Or fish.

8. I didn't get married at 18. And that makes me an "old maid"  in everyone's minds.
Photo via

9. I don't wear a cowboy hat. I don't even own one.

10. Or cowboy boots. I don't own these either.

11. I hate mayonnaise.

12. I've never farmed in tobacco. Or cotton. Or corn. Or anything really.

13. I hate pimento cheese.

14. I don't drink bourbon or whiskey. And you know KY is well-known for it's bourbon, right?

15. I've never been to a rodeo. Or is that just a Texas thing?

I know. I know. Are you shocked at how "un-southern" I am. I'm surprised I haven't been kicked out yet.

What "southern-isms" do you not follow?
