What’s Up Wednesday (on Thursday)

I’m a day late; sue me.

My favorite Texas bloggers (Shay, Sheaffer, Erika, and their friend, Mel) are involved in a link-up on Wednesdays. Since my Wed are devoted to my Save or Splurge posts, I decided to do it on Thursday. I mean, aren’t rules made to be broken?

WUWquestions

What I’m Eating

Monday- grilled pork chops, salad, roasted potatoes and Hawaiian rolls

Tuesday- A late night in BG called for Freddie’s. YUM!

Wednesday- Mexican hamburgers at my parents

Thursday- Meeting a friend at Griff’s deli. Extra YUM!

Friday- No stinking clue! Maybe spaghetti? I’ll go where the wind takes me.

What I’m Reminiscing About

High School. I saw a musical with a friend at our old high school last weekend. Memories flooded back about being that skinny and cute and young and carefree. Those were the days.

What I’m Loving

I’m loving this spring weather we’ve had this week. Cool enough for pants and long sleeves/sweatshirts, but warm enough to enjoy being outside in the sun! Perfect weather!

What I’ve Been Up To

Oh ya know…working working working. I have basically 3 jobs- office admin (full-time), behavior therapist (part-time), Silpada Designs rep (part part-time).

What I’m Dreading

Being THE only one of my friends (locally) that is single and childless. It sucks sometimes, you guys.

What I’m Working On

The biggest thing is this Silpada business. I’m working my business (slowly) to pay for national conference, and then to hopefully pay off my credit card. Sometimes I struggle with knowing it is “sales”, but I’m having fun!

What I’m Excited About

National conference! I’ve never been. It’s in Kansas City, a place that I’ve never been. Full of women similar to me. JEWELRY (my favorite part). Good food. Awesome networking. Let’s get this business started!

What I’m Watching/Reading

Netflix watching- How I Met Your Mother. I’m on season 8 and determined to finish it before I move onto something else. Erika and Shay are loving Gilmore Girls, so I may give it a whirl.

On pause on Netflix- House of Cards. 3 episodes in to Season 3 and I’m just bored.

Reading- Most Talkative by Andy Cohen. Loved his latest memoir, so I bought this. Girl on the Train is next for my book club.

What I’m Listening To

These are all on my playlist and I love each one. Give ‘em a listen.

1. Shut Up and Dance (remember the video last week?) by Walk the Moon

2. Smokin’ and Drinkin’ by Miranda Lambert

3. Oh, Tonight by Josh Abbott Band and Kacey Musgraves

4. I Feel a Sin Comin’ On by Piston Annies

What I’m Wearing

Black leggings or capris and a sheer-ish  flowy top. My “uniform”

What I’m Doing This Weekend

No idea. None. Maybe the Southern Women’s Show in Nashville?

What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month

Another Silpada show. Lots of markets and festivals. My sister’s birthday

What Else Is New

I’ve really been attending church regularly lately (I always did growing up, but stopped several years ago) and just was asked to teach Wed night children’s class (for the summer) and a VBS class. I wanted to be involved in something, and while this may or may not have been what I had in mind, God had other plans.  I don’t really share much about church or religion or my beliefs on this little blog, but this is what’s new!

What’s up with y’all?

That Time I Was Cussed At A Red Light

So last Friday night, I was driving home, and I’m stopped at a red light. I’m minding my own business, replying to text messages, while stopped, I remind you. My windows are cracked a smidge for some air.

The light turns green, I put down my phone, and before I can even hit the gas (no one in front of me has moved yet), the skank beside me screams, “Quit ya damn texting!”

Excuse me, skank in the silver mini-van???? What you say?

Of course, my blood is boiling. I was not moving when I was texting. I was not holding up the line as the people in front of me hadnt even moved yet. And what business of it is yours?

I let my anger get the best of me, drive up beside him, and yell (while flipping him off), “Mind your own business, A$$hole!”  Ugh. That felt better. It was wrong of me, but gosh darn it, he deserved it.

Next red light, I’m minding my own business. And as soon as the light turns green again, he yells, “Quit texting, ya b*$&%!” Of course, I didn’t have time to respond because he waited to yell these obscenities as his vehicle was pulling away.

Rude.

That Time I Was Blocked By A Bravolebrity

So I'm a huge fan of the Real Housewives franchise on Bravo. Huge.

And I may be a bit of a crazy tweeter during the shows. Remember that time when Bravo put my tweet up on their Social Episode?

So I was tweeting the Atlanta reunion last night, and checking out all of the ladies' twitter accounts. Imagine my surprise when I see this-

You guys. I WAS BLOCKED! By a freaking Bravolebrity.

Hmph.

Twitter Faves 5.0

It was a serious struggle. Didn't know if I could make it.

Seriously. This jarred me. I got angry with the govt while watching this series, thinking some of it could be true. 99%. We suck.

So so true. Why cant people just stop with the spoilers. It's not that hard.

It was me. And I would 100% wear this to the wedding just to make people laugh. Honest.

I agree, Helene. It can't be done. #Silpada

I always #treatyoself, Ashten. It's a problem, really.

Shut Up & Dance!

I was on facebook and ran upon the best video I've ever seen. It was a mashup of dance scenes from movies played to a song I assumed was old, "Shut up and dance," because it just sounded like an 80s song.

I downloaded the song, saw that it was actually released last year (what????) by the group Walk The Moon, and it's now my favorite song ever. Like every time I hear it, I get energized and sing and dance. It's the best.

And this video is the best. You must watch, if you haven't already. And then save it to watch every other day.

You're welcome.

Save or Splurge: Ball Stud Earrings

Let me tell you how much I love today's Save or Splurge items. I LOVE THEM!!!!!

Left: Tiffany Bead Earrings ($150)
Right: Silpada Rich Abundance ($39)

I'm not really a studs kinda girl. I like big earrings. The bigger the better. But these are some studs I can wear, because they are pretty substantial. I have the Silpada pair, and I actually do wear them

Which would you choose?

90s Fashions I Rocked

I like to think that I was pretty fashionable in the 90s. I was in Kindergarten through 9th grade during this time, and my mom made sure I was stylin’.
Here are a few of the fashions I rocked.

Timberland EuroHikers
Yes. These were Christmas presents for several years in middle school and high school.

Tight Rolled Jeans
THE style of the 5th grade.

Slap It Bracelets
I got one every time I was at the skating rink. I had quite the collection.

Tommy Hilfiger
Shirts, jackets, socks and even duffel bags.

Birkenstocks
Never “real” Birkenstocks, but I went through several lookalikes.

WWJD Bracelets
A friend gave me one when I asked her what it meant. I was hooked after that.

Steve Madden platform sandals
Don’t tell me y’all didn’t have these too!

I’m sure there are others that I’ve pushed out of my mind I just can’t remember. What did you rock in the 90s?

Yep. This is me.

Yes. They are THE best!

Gimme gimme gimme.

And let's end with this one. Don't be assholes, people. Be awesome.

Things I Wish Would Disappear

1. The Bachelor/Bachelorette- OVER. IT.

2. Yellow Starburst- I’ve never met one person who actually likes them.

3. Harem pants- not flattering on anyone. ANYONE!

4. Pretzels in Chex Mix- nobody likes the pretzels, not even my dog.

5.  American Idol and every other talent show- please give us something else to obsess over.

6. The term “On Fleek”. I just don’t understand. And you sound like a tool when you say it.

7. Cancer

8. Chunky shoes from the 90s. Why oh why are they back? They weren’t cute then, and they sure aren’t now.

9. Trivia Crack invitations- first it was candy crush, now it’s trivia crack. Stop.

10. Construction boots- I’ve never liked them. And mark my words, I never will. No matter how many times Khloe Kardashian wears them.

What do you wish would disappear?

Save or Splurge: Classic Tote

IMG_9602

I never shop at Walmart; I actually hate the place. So imagine my surprise when I went to their site to look at totes. (Insert shocked face here.) I saw some super cute fabric totes for like $10 bucks each. But that’s another post.

For today, I found a super similar tote to the one that is on my wish list. And being from Walmart, you can bet it’s tons cheaper too.

Tote

Left: SW Global Brie Classic Zip Top Tote ($35.99)- Available in apricot, gold, beige, and silver

Right: Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Top Zip Tote ($278)- Available in pale blue, peanut, sun, black, navy, and mandarin

The Walmart bag, which seems to come from a company called eBags, doesn’t list the material. Faux leather, I’m sure. The inside features lots of pockets and a fun black and white striped lining.

The MK bag, which I’ve been wanting for ages, but just have never bought, is saffiano leather. The insides are solid with the classic MK logo, and it also has lots of inside pockets for your organization.

Because I’m super picky about bags and don’t like cheap ones, I would stick with the MK bag in a fun color like the mandarin, even though there is a $242 difference.

Which would you choose?

Book Club: Day After Night

Once a month, a few girls and I meet at my favorite local Mexican restaurant and discuss the chosen book we’ve all read that month. Our talk of the novel usually lasts around 15 minutes and the other hour and 45 minutes is spent talking about other random tidbits of our lives. Good food. Good conversations. Good friends. Fun stuff.

This month, we are reading Day After Night by Anita Diamant.

Summary from Amazon:

NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE WASHINGTON POST AND THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE

Just as she gave voice to the silent women of the Hebrew Bible in The Red Tent, Anita Diamant creates a cast of breathtakingly vivid characters—young women who escaped to Israel from Nazi Europe—in this intensely dramatic novel.
Day After Night is based on the extraordinary true story of the October 1945 rescue of more than two hundred prisoners from the Atlit internment camp, a prison for “illegal” immigrants run by the British military near the Mediterranean coast south of Haifa. The story is told through the eyes of four young women at the camp who survived the Holocaust: Shayndel, a Polish Zionist; Leonie, a Parisian beauty; Tedi, a hidden Dutch Jew; and Zorah, a concentration camp survivor. Haunted by unspeakable memories and losses, afraid to hope, the four of them find salvation in the bonds of friendship and shared experience even as they confront the challenge of re-creating themselves in a strange new country.

Diamant’s triumphant novel is an unforgettable story of tragedy and redemption that reimagines a singular moment in history with stunning eloquence.

Here’s my thought: I’d love for any of you to read this book with me this month and then chat about it at the end of the month. At the back of the book is a Reading Group Guide.

If you’re interested, please leave me a comment and let me know!

Wildcat Autograph Tour

I’ve mentioned before that I’m a huge UK Basketball fan and an even bigger fan of the players. Andrew Harrison has been my favorite all year long.

Like we’re basically dating.

In my mind.

I’ve also been known to go to a few autograph sessions after the season to see these  players.

Need proof?

Here’s me and my boyfriend of that year, Michael Kidd-Gilchrest. He’s currently playing for Charlotte.

306155_10100375779756562_1746485752_n

This guy is Brows, or as his mother calls him- Anthony Davis. He’s currently playing for New Orleans. Major.

556206_10100404075676312_1868698803_n

And then last summer, I got to see the legend, John Calipari, when he was on his book signing tour.

10270551_10101378380326982_6531807702317423275_n

Back to my original point- Andrew Harrison. When I heard Friday afternoon that the Harrison twins would be at a mall an hour from me that night, I immediately made plans to go see them.  My friend, Meg, and I waited in line for 3 hours. We paid $20 bucks for one of their autographs. I got Andrew, she got Aaron.

11078167_10102013003846362_6895865802138712755_n

While Andrew didn’t sweep me off my feet and whisk me away on a romantic getaway, it was fun seeing them.

Have you all ever met someone and got their autograph? How was your experience?

Twitter Faves Friday 3.0

It’s time for my weekly wrap up of my favorite tweets of the week. Click on each tweet if you want to see the tweeter’s timeline. (Say that 3x fast.)

Twitter Faves Emelia- I feel your emoji pain. Why would they take those away? AND where are the taco and hot dog emojis??? Suck a lemon, Apple.

Yes. This. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been “bullied”, but I’ve definitely had my feelings hurt and cried over the mean words from others. It sucks, you guys. And I’m sure you have too. So before you make a “joke” or try to put someone down, remember how you felt when you were being degraded.

If you’ve read anything about me, you know my social life in the winter revolves around UK Basketball. And we’re losing 7 to the NBA draft. Insert sad face emoji, if Apple still has those.

Basically me.

Basically me again. Scott Foley understands me. #TeamJake

Save or Splurge: Black Beaded Bracelet

These bracelets are similar in that they both have black natural stones and sterling silver. The Silpada version is made of hematite, pyrite, agate and sterling silver. The John Hardy version is turquoise and sterling silver. While there are obvious differences in the look, the prices are different by $246, which is why I thought they were perfect for today’s Save or Splurge post.

IMG_0068

Left: Silpada Blackboard Stretch Bracelet ($49)

Right: John Hardy ‘Palu’ Turquoise Beaded Bracelet ($295)

I actually prefer the chunkier look of the Silpada bracelet. I think it’s heavy (in looks) enough to be worn alone, or can be stacked and layered. AND it’s $246 cheaper!

Which do you prefer?

Tip of The Day: Write Shit Down

I was lying in bed last week, and right before falling asleep, I had two awesome blog post ideas.

I’m not moving to write these down, I thought. These are good. I’ll remember them.

And you know what happened?

I totally forgot.

It’s been almost a week, and I still can’t remember what the heck that grand idea was.

#BloggerFail

So my tip to you for today?

Write it down

Always write that shit down.

Twitter Faves Friday 2.0

I'm ready to round up my favorites on twitter this week and share them with you. If you have a free moment, check out the ladies or men that I've featured. There's a reason that I follow them, and that's because they're awesome.

Autism is close to my heart. One of my jobs is working with the sweetest little boy on Earth who happens to be autistic. So I loved this tweet by Kait.
Most of my favorited tweets lately have been about the KY Wildcats. Cuz lezbehonest, they are freaking rock stars and I love them.

I follow this account because it's hilarious. But sometimes, like this tweet, they put something out there that you just need to hear at that moment. This was it.

Pinterest is both amazing and absolutely terrible. Here's why-

Because it's always awesome to see other people having great days. It can be contagious.

Thursdays are my fave. I'm a gladiator.

Check these people out. What did you favorite this week?

Save or Splurge: Zip Wedge

I saw these wedges in Target a few weeks ago. Cute, right? Then last week, while I was looking around on Zappos.com, I saw some that were super similar. Light bulb moment! I immediately put them together for this week’s Save or Splurge post.

The Michael Kors wedges come in a variety of colors, my favorite being the watermelon. Super cute for spring and summer! They also have several with the logo on them.

Wedge
Left: Michael Kors Damita Wedge ($99)- available in natural, gold, watermelon, navy & mocha
Right: Target Merona Meredith Zipper Wedge ($29.99) – available in black and tan

For only $30 buckaroos, I think I’d just go with the Target brand wedges. However, as I mentioned above, the watermelon is calling my name, so I may have to just splurge for the MK ones.

Which shoe do you prefer? Which color would you buy?

Update: the Merona shoes are on sale this week! 20% off (all shoes), so they are only $23.99!
