We Don't Crawl; We scoot.

I could hang out with my niece all the time and never tire of it. At only 11 months, she is so funny and makes me laugh.

Girl also gets around, and not by crawling either. She scoots. On her butt. I have never in my life seen a child do this before.
Funny, right?

Veronica Takes Over With A Chocolate Treat

Hello, lovelies. I'm so please to introduce you to Veronica, my May Hello Box partner! She is the sweetest, has a fun blog full of crafts and recipes. She's here today to share the cutest recipe for graduation treats. Without further adieu, here's Veronica!

Hi there!! Melanie was so sweet to let me guest post on her beautiful corner of blog-land today and I am thrilled to be here! I thought I would share a simple, and yummy treat with you all today, but first I should introduce myself. I'm Veronica, the "V" in Adventures of D and V. And you guessed it, the "D" is my wonderful hubby, Daniel. Our little blog is all about our adventures. From learning to cook gluten free, to navigating the waters of marriage, to finishing our basement DIY style, we love living each new adventure life throws our way together.

Ok, on to the chocolate! Graduation party season is in full swing with college graduations already happening and high school graduations coming up soon! I can remember making these little treats in high school with my mom, but I can't remember where we got the idea from...These little guys are super easy, very quick, and everyone will be very impressed at your kitchen skills (even if you don't have any at all!).

Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
To make these you will need:
Rolos (one for each cap),
Hershey bars (you can get 4 caps per bar),
and Twizzlers pull and peal licorice.

Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Use a knife to cut (or if you are brave brake) the Hershey bar into 4 squares of 2 and 4 single rectangles. I like clean edges on my caps, so I use a knife. Keep all the squares of 2, and melt all the single pieces in a little bowl.
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Once the chocolate is melted get your Rolos and squares of chocolate ready. Place the chocolate squares "Hershey side up".
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Hold the end of the Rolo with the larger circumference, and dip the end with the smaller circumference into the melted chocolate about 1 cm.
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Place the Rolo dipped side down on the square of chocolate.
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Let chocolate cool and solidify. (about 5 -10 minutes depending on the weather and room temp.)
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Peel 2 sections of the pull and peal licorice off of the others.
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Keeping the 2 sections together, cut about 1 1/2 inch sections.
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Once the caps are set, turn them over, dip the tip of licorice into the melted chocolate...
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
And place on top of the cap in the center.
Note: If your section of licorice is to long, it will tip off the top before the chocolate is set. They should be long enough to stick out over the edge, but not to long.
Adventures of D and V Graduation Caps
Let the melted chocolate solidify and taadaa! You have a cute little graduation hat that everyone will love to look at just as much as they love to eat!

Aren't those adorable? And perfect to take to a graduation party or to give a little box of treats to the graduate! I hope you all check out Veronica's blog. Give her some blog love and tell her I sent ya!

So What

It's hump day, you guys. And you know how much I love hump day!

I haven't done a So What Wednesday post in a long while, so that's what you get today. I'm full of sass today, so this is perfect.
So What Wednesday

So what if I drink my coffee through the stirrer straw. It's so much easier, I think.

So what if I use self-depracating humor on Twitter. It's funny, right? Don't you all think it's funny when people make fun of themselves? It's nicer than making fun of other people!

So what if I'm a tad bit rude to other people on Twitter. It's a sounding board, people! I'm not the only one!

So what if I tell my friends I'm going to cunt punt them when they say something smart-assy to me. You can think that sorority chick for that line. It's a classic.

So what if I call everyone a heifer. It's not meant to be bad. It's like saying, "Hey, girl!" Except I use heifer. Don't be offended.

So what if that's all I've got today. It's hump day and I've got some humpin to do. Wait....Uhh, no.

Via

By the way, do not google hump day images. Just save yourself the embarrassment.

Ta ta for now, kids!

Friday Five- 90s Movies

My girl, Aly from Analyze This, just posted a photo from one of my favorite 90's movies, Now and Then.

Y'all, I seriously watched this movie non-stop the summer it came out. I know I'm not alone when I say I just wanted a tree house full of friends, fake boobs made out of pudding-filled balloons, and to hold a seance in a cemetery. You know you did it too. Right?

Anywho, Aly posting this picture made me think about the other movies from my childhood that I watched on regular rotation. And there are some good ones. Ready?

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter Is Dead

Were you not dying to be Christina Applegate's character? She had a big-girl job and got to wear all of those fancy clothes!

Clueless

"As if!" "I like totally paused!" These phrases were constantly coming out of my mouth. Pretty sure I annoyed everyone around me. And Cher's closet?!?! I'd kill for it now!

Urban Legend

I'm still not comfortable flashing my headlights at people. And pop rocks with soda? Best thing ever. Still.

Pretty Woman

I can't believe my mom let me watch a movie about a prostitute. But it had a happy ending, so it's basically a fairy tale, right? I mean, Kit even calls Viv "Cinder-effing-rella."

Terminator 2

This, I admit, is a little strange. I had a habit of renting movies at the local Cinema-to-go that were much scarier and edgier than any 9 year old should be watching. My aunt would pick my sister and I up on Fridays, get us a movie or two and some food, and we were good to go. This always came home with me.

What movies did you watch constantly? I feel like I need a 90s movie night now. Who's in?

Movie posters were found on wikimedia.org.

Happy Birthday, Sis

Today is my little sister's birthday. She's 27.  How did that happen?

She's married. She has a child. How can that be possible when it feels like she should still be a teenager?

Trisha has always been a little spit-fire. She's quiet and calm, but don't mess with her. She'll bring out the claws, and I have the scars to prove it. Seriously. When she was little she would scratch my face. I have two scars on my face. Small, teeny, tiny scars, but still scars nonetheless.

We are total opposites. We look nothing alike. Have totally different interests. I think people often wonder if we are really sisters.

I'm so proud of the person she's become; she's a devoted Christian, an awesome mother to my niece, and my best friend. I hope you have the very best birthday, Trisha Rae. Love you!

The Time I Caught A Bush On Fire

It was a chilly spring afternoon when I was sitting on my front steps playing with matches. Sounds like the beginning of a fairy-tale doesn't it?

I have a weird habit of striking matches and letting them burn lately. Maybe I like the smell. Maybe I like seeing the flame. Yes, I realize this is weird. But don't turn me in to the crazy catchers; I don't want to be in a straight jacket anytime soon. And I have no plans of catching anything but leaves on fire. Well, not even them anymore, because I may or may not have caused a small fire last night.

While I was burning some matches, there were some dried leaves in the "flower" bed beside me under a bush. I had already held the flame up to one of the bush sticks and nothing happened. So wouldn't you just assume it wouldn't catch fire? Yeah, me too.

Then I decided to hold the flame to the leaves. They would curl up and burn out on their own. So I thought. While they were burning, the flames got higher. And higher. Crap. I thought. I may need to get some water so my flag doesn't catch on fire.

I ran inside, got a bowl (the quickest thing to grab), filled it with water, turned around, and BAM!

"Jesus, it's a far."

I could see smoke rolling up from the ground. Dark gray smoke like something major was on fire. I ran outside, trying not to splash water on the floor, and saw the bush on fire. The same bush that wouldn't catch fire before.

I threw the water on the bush, filled the bowl a few more times, and watered that sucker down. I couldn't have it starting up again and burning my house down!

I made a photo demonstrating what I was experiencing. You're welcome. The only outside picture is from this winter. No worries, those decorations aren't still up. I keep it Klassy up in here.

There's me, sitting on the porch (except I didn't have a hat on, but it looked fun), striking some matches, burning some leaves, and catching a bush on fire. My life may have flashed before my eyes.

And here are a few remnants from my wild and dangerous ways. Don't be disappointed that it's not bigger and worse. I have to admit, even this little fire scared me a bit. I wonder if this is what Moses felt like.

Moral to the story- don't play with fire, kids. It's scary stuff.

Friday Five- Netflix Addictions

Let it be known that I am addicted to tv. If I'm home, the tv is on. Now whether I'm watching it or paying attention or even listening to it is questionable, but the tv is on nonetheless.

And since I've gotten Netflix a few months ago? Shew. I get my money's worth, I tell ya. There will be some weeks that Netflix isn't even opened, and then others where I watch it on my computer at work and then go home and watch until I go to bed. It's SO easy to get hooked to a show. And I kind of love having a show I'm addicted to.

Currently, that show is Prison Break. Obsessed doesn't begin to describe it. I almost cancelled/declined two different dinners with friends this week to go home and watch it. Then realized that was a little crazy. But I blame Wentworth Miller. That's all I have to say. ::swoon:: If I've ever been obsessed with a character or actor, it is him. I mean, I want to have his babies. It's true. Look at him. Don't you think we'd make a great couple? Yeah.

Other shows I've been obsessed with on Netflix?

Breaking Bad- Totally wasn't expecting to like this, but wow. You keep watching to see what happens next. I'm caught up on Netflix, but need to see the season that just ended on tv.

Gossip Girl- The clothes alone were enough to keep me tuned in, but the lifestyle of these super rich people was so intriguing. Yes, I know it's just a show, but you know there are kids out there that live this way. Crazy!

Via

The Walking Dead- Another show I thought I'd hate, but became hooked on. So good. What happens? Can't wait for the new season!

Via

Downton Abbey- For the longest time I thought it was Downtown Abbey. Hello, silly! I'd heard so much about it that I thought I'd give it a shot. It took me awhile to get into, but now I like the characters and want to see what happens to them. Unfortunately, only the first season is on Netflix, so I guess I'll have to wait awhile to see what happens.

Via

It looks like it will be yet another weekend of gross, rainy weather, so it will be perfect for me to watch some more Prison Break. I ain't mad about it either.

What shows have you seen that you became obsessed with? What should I watch next?

5 Things That Bother Me

As I've said before, I love lists. And I've found that blogging using lists is fun. So I present you with an other- 5 things that bother me.

1. Not matching- Everything has to match. I don't understand those people that can walk around with different socks on. And those packs of socks that are all different. I can't. Just can't.

2. Babies/kids with nasty faces- I understand it happens. But clean that mess up. Dried snot all around the mouth is just gross. Food stains on the face hours after the meal is gross.

3. When men "adjust" themselves- It's so awkward and makes me uncomfortable. I can't help it.

4. Fishing for compliments- I have "friends" on facebook that make daily posts bragging to get compliments. I'm all about being proud of yourself and sharing the awesome things that are happening, but when it's almost daily, it's annoying.

5. Smoker smell- Most of the guys that work where I work smoke. So when they come in the office, the smell lingers long after they are gone. I hate smoke. I hate smelling smoke. I hate the headache that comes when I smell smoke. I don't want to smell ashtray when you are around.

I know I'm not alone on these. What bothers you?

Things I've Learned at the Grocery Store

1. There will always be a person or family that stinks to high heaven. And all of the aisles will smell.

2. That person is not me. I checked after I kept smelling it.

3. Extreme couponers are annoying as shit. One person has 5 sections to purchase separately. I mean what do you really need with 10 boxes of toothpaste? You'll die before you even use it. And based on your hair, you need to find some coupons for some shampoo.

4. Stores like to keep employees working to the bare minimum. Only 3 regular lines opened during the busiest time of day. Tons of self-checkouts available, but with my cart full, I don't want to hold up the people with 2-3 items behind me.

5. People talk forever. If you have 20 questions for the cashier, maybe ask for a manager or supervisor. Not the guy trying to get everyone in his line checked out.

6. Good baggers must be hard to find. I've put things on the conveyer belt that go together. Please don't put meat with soap.

7. Grocery shopping is good cardio. After going through half the store, I decided to make tacos for dinner. Which meant I had to backtrack to get tomatoes and lettuce. Back and forth, back and forth. I was like the Energizer bunny.

8. Way too many "extras" are EBT approved. If you are given assistance, you should keep your groceries to the bare necessities until you can afford to feed yourself.

9. I only learned what EBT meant a few years ago when asked if my card was an EBT card, and I said I had no idea what that even was. Must have been the "extras" I had in my cart that threw them off.

10. One should always carry ear plugs when shopping in a grocery because there will always be a screaming kid wanting something they can't have. And yes, I once was that kid screaming for Skittles. My mom and Granny remind me of this constantly.

What have you learned while shopping at the grocery?
