My former good friend and my favorite team

I have a good friend, we'll call her Meg. She informed me last night that she and her husband, who we'll call Kyle, are going to be heading to Houston to watch the final four. I responded with a sentence full of expletives that would embarrass me if anyone else were to have heard.

While I'm excited that the heifer is going, I'm insanely jealous that I will not be partaking in the trip to see my all-time-favorite basketball team fight for a trip to the championship game. So while I'm stewing at my desk, I'll leave you with a picture of the freaking globetrotters that were my friends and some awesome tee shirts and prints of the final four bound Cats!
Former friends, Kyle & Meg

This is the shirt I'm going to get as soon as the store opens it's doors at 10am.

Love the look of this one!

The shirts and prints were all found here!
*All of the anger that I seem to have toward Meg and Kyle is all in good fun. Sort of.

What I'm Reading

So I've been stumped this week on writing topics...this has never happened before! Usually I have tons and tons to ramble on about. What is going on?????

Anywho--I've heard SO much about this book,

but it just didn's seem like something I would be interested in.

Until I saw this.

(I LOVE reading books and then seeing the film!)

And I knew I had to see it, because it included her.

And him.
(Isn't he just gorgeous. Those eyes those eyes!!)

And I love him, because he is a good actor. Yes, I have seen him in other things besides this.
(But I admit, I did fall for him because he played the oh-so-romantic Edward. ::sigh::)

Have you read this book?
What did you think?
Will you see the movie?

At a loss for words

I've started typing time and time again about something this morning, and every time I erase it. A lot of times, writing is therapeutic for me...but I just feel like I can't write about this. Can't tell the story. Maybe it's too personal to post on a blog where anyone that runs across this can see. I don't know why I'm so hesitant, but I do want to ask for prayers. There's a family that is still in mourning after my cousin's death one year ago today. Two little boys that were left behind. Pleas for closure. And a hole in our hearts that will never be filled again.

Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.

Final Four Baby!!!!!

I just had to check in to give a HUGE shoutout to the best team in the whole dang country, UK WILDCATS!

Deandre Liggins. Photo from here.

We battled UNC this afternoon and came away with a HUGE win to take us to the Final Four in Houston. The Cats weren't "supposed" to make it this far according to the "experts," but they've played with all of their hearts and made it another round.

It's another great day to be a Wildcat!

Weekend Happy List

It's time for another one of my favorite link-ups!!

Photobucket

I revised this list to add the biggest happy of happy this week.....

Cats won a HUGE game last night, knocking off #1 seed, Ohio State University! The game was neck and neck the whole time, and KY edged by with a win. It's a good night to be a Cats fan!

Now back the my original list. :)

Item #1: The Game of Things

I will be playing this tonight and it is my all time favorite game! The dirtier, the better! Especially involved with items like my #2.

Item #2: Push Up

I'm not talking about the ice-cream here, folks. It's a fabulous drink involving alcohol, but it does taste JUST LIKE the ice-cream. Yummo!

Item #3: Facebook

What in the world did we do with our time before this awesomely annoying and addictive site? (Like that alliteration in there?)

Item #4: Fun Mail

I love love love getting packages in the mail. It makes my day! And I've gotten a couple this week...thanks to eBay!

What's on your happy list this weekend?

Friday Confessions

It's Friday and time for one of my favorite link-ups! Go on over to Mamarazzi's site, link up, and confess your heart out today!

Photobucket

I confess that this week I've been "stretching" my clothes before I put them on. You know, put your shirt on your arms and puuuuuuull apart. Things are feeling tight....grrrr...

I confess that I am not cut out for public work. I'm working in an office right now and let me just say, people are dumb. I wish we could gather all of the dumbasses and ship them off to a deserted island. I wonder how many would make it.

I confess that these confessionals make me feel evil. I promise I'm not. I just have mean thoughts sometimes. Not all the time.

I confess that I watch General Hospital, and I cried this week when sweet little Jake died. Dang soap operas. So sad.

I confess that I've been dreaming about my cousin a lot lately. Monday will be one year since her passing, and I still can't believe she is gone. Maybe I will make a post about her one day.

I confess that I plan to get cuh-ray-zee this weekend. UK game tonight with some friends and game night tomorrow night at my house. Bring on the amaretto sours and orange push-ups. Whoop whoop!

Spring Swap Reveal

I participated in my very 1st blog swap and was so excited to be paired with Kristen. She sent me some awesome stuff! Many many thanks to her and the hosts of the swap, Molly and Aly. Check out their blogs; you will love them!

When I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was the gorgeous scarf. It is white with a purple, pink, and green floral pattern. SOO pretty. The pink and orange in the upper right corner is a lightweight tote, perfect for spring and summer. I also received a book; I've never read this author, so I'm excited to start. I love cards and sending notes, so the pack of blank cards and pen with flowers is perfect for that. My pal knew just what to get me from the short time we communicated. Again, many thanks to Kristen for an awesome box of goodies!

It's a love/hate relationship...sort of...

So I had a post. I made a link-up, but was the only link up. I felt like a big old loser. So I deleted all of that and made a list of things I love and things I hate.

My loves: warm toweles out of the dryer. polka dots. pedicures. the beach. candles. boats. tattoos. jewelry. love. spring flowers. a clean house. animal prints. texts just because. new socks. fresh snow. orange juice. snuggling. football on a chilly fall night. cookouts. my dog. italian food. sand. sun. halloween. shopping. christmas. traveling. tanning. pictures. sleeping in. uk basketball. thunder and rain on a tin roof. giving gifts. celebrity gossip. lazy sundays. manicures. cheesy romance novels. sleeping in. board games.

My hates: talking on the phone. body odor. self-obsessed people. closed-mindedness. humidity. not matching. loud people. filthyness. dieting. headaches. yellow vehicles. bragging. being late. exercising. waking up early. insomnia. driving alone. being broke. trying on clothes. bright orange. long lines. traffic.  unpainted toe nails. jorts. when people wear clothes that are too small. buying gas. being sick. blond hair with dark eyebrows. shots. smoke. rodents. slow drivers. sweating.

Breaking the Ice

I saw this link up [yesterday....I know I'm late], and thought I would give it a go for today! Head over to Perfectly Imperfect to join in!

Q: What is your middle name?
A: Kay, after my mom

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: I always wanted to be a teacher. I used to pretend I was the teacher in my Nanny's spare bedroom. I had a desk, marker board, worksheets....a lot more fun then that actually being a teacher. STRESSFUL!

Q: If you could have 3 wishes granted, what would they be?
A: 1. Be naturally thin with curves.
     2. Have enough money to do whatever the heck I wanted.
     3. Cures and preventions for cancer.

Q: If your house was on fire and you could grab only 3 things before leaving, what would they be?
A: 1. My dog
     2. pictures
     3.  computer

Q: You wouldn’t be caught dead, where?
A: In the middle of a busy road with a dead car.

Q: If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be?
A: I suppose I would want to be Cinderella. She does end up with a happily ever after!

Q: Who was the last person you hugged?
A: I had a dream just last night about constantly hugging my cousin (who passed away last year). In real life, I think it was some friends I hadn't seen in ages!

Q: What do you think of when you hear the word "yellow"?
A: Pee...I know. I'm odd.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Good Monday morning, blogworld! Usually I dread Mondays, but I have a feeling this week is going to be a good one! The weekend was too pretty and awesome to give us a crappy week! (Despite my super depressing post last night. I apologize. It was posted out of frustration.)

Friday: After work, I met my two best friends in BG. (If you want to do anything remotely fun, you have to travel to this town 30 minutes away. I know I've mentioned I live in a small town, so trips to BG are frequent.)

My best friends at a WKU game this past season; Whitney, Me, Megan.

I met them at Olive Garden, my fave. Our waiter looked JUSTLIKE Scotty from this season's American Idol. Seriously. We tried getting him to sing, but he denied. Dang it.

Whitney left early because she had other plans, so Meg and I headed off for some shopping. I was on the hunt for things to go with my new comforter. I found some pillows at Pier 1 that matched the "red" perfectly. That was the end of my luck though. After a trip to Hobby Lobby, Macy's, Dillard's, and Target, we returned to the car empty handed. I didn't even put one item in my cart at Target. You know something is up when that happens.

Meg was without child that night, and I wasn't ready to go home, so we drove around Bowling Green for probably 2 hours. Yes, that's right, 2 hours! We are Gleeks, so we had some Glee turned up, driving across town, and back again, perused every car lot in that city, freaked ourselves out with probably monsters and/or stalkers, did some stalking ourselves (yes, I admitted that), and had a grand ole time. There is never a dull moment with that girl; one reason I love hanging out with her! After hours of basically doing nothing, we headed our separate ways, and I got in bed around 2ish.

Saturday: I woke up to the sun shining and fresh air coming through the (one) window I had open. It was a little stuffy so I opened all the windows and started cleaning. I don't mean my usual pick up the stuff scattered around the house, I mean dusting, mopping, wiping down every surface in the house spring cleaning. (If you know me, you know this is very very unusual. I think the people I told this to thought I should have my head checked. THAT ODD!) I did break for some basketball!

GO CATS!

After a close, too-close-for-comfort game, I resumed my cleaning. I then went to watch my little cousin's ball game. Have you ever seen 5 and 6 year olds play basketball? Adorable! I went to eat with the parentals, then back home to clean some more. Let me tell you, by the end of the day, I was exhausted. Whew!

I had on my pj's, relaxing in bed, when a friend messaged me to visit. I was comfy, looking quite skanky, and she lived about 20 minutes away. After some persuading, I went to see the gang. And like usual, had a good time. Every time I'm with this group, we laugh non-stop. I hadn't been up there in almost 6 months, and it was good seeing them again. I finally went home, and got to sleep pretty late again.

Sunday: I woke up to more sun shining, ate some Cheerios (my usual weekend breakfast), read the paper, and got ready for church. I visited my sister's church and was glad I went. Came home for some lunch, sat in the sun, napped, more reading in the sun, de-weeded (is that a word) my front flower bed, sat outside for a little longer, then watched some more basketball. What ever will we do after March???

Well, that was a little longer than I expected. And I'm sure some of you could care less, but it was such a good weekend, and it was good to reflect on it! It's Monday, guys! Hope you all have a great day and an even better week!!

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Ohhhhh geez.

I'm a little frustrated. A lot frustrated. Mostly with myself for never being satisfied with stuff! I've posted many times about changing my mind constantly. Well, folks, I've done it again.

It started with this post.

I stripped my bed, put all of the old bedding in the spare room, put on the new comforter and pillows (that took hours searching for), step back, and I sigh. I don't 'love it.' I love the colors. I love how airy and cheerful it is (compared to the dark browns I tend to go with). But I don't love it with my stuff. I have a bronze iron bed, and light colord wood furniture. And what I bought doesn't feel right with my furniture. (I would love to have new stuff, but mine is fine....so it stays.) And I feel guilty spending that money on something I'm not in love with.

So after many days searching online sites for a set I love, thinking I have 'it', and then realizing I don't, I'm back to the drawing board. Your bedroom is supposed to be your sanctuary. A place where you can relax. So far, it is only causing me stress. Grrrr.

Friday Confessional

One of my favorite posts of the week....FRIDAY CONFESSIONAL! Go on over to Mamarazzi's site and link up! It's fun to write and to read the other confessions. HAPPY FRIDAY, YA'LL!

Photobucket

I confess that when I see people my age with an awesome house or car, I get jealous. I can't help it.

I confess that I want a family and babies, but I can not imagine myself with a kid right now, even though I'm old enough to have about ten.

I confess that I have a VERY short tolerance level for stupid.

I confess that even though it is very much like No Strings Attached, I still desperately want to see Friends with Benefits because Justin Timberlake and Mina Kunis are hot.  (I saw the preview as I was typing this, and had to include it. It looks so funny!)

I confess that I have a fear of my house catching on fire with my dog trapped inside. I used to have a crazy fear of drowning, even though we were on the lake every weekend and I know how to swim.

I confess that I am an emotional rollercoaster. I can cry over anything, be completely silly...so much where people think that I'm drunk or on something when really I'm just high on life, get angry or ticked in seconds....but isn't that called being a girl? Or bi-polar? or just crazy? You tell me.

I confess that I will be glued to these basketball games all weekend. I love tournament time. More than one girl should.

Is it me, or are all of these confessions really depressing or angry? Geez-O, Mel! Maybe I am crazy! haha

OHMYGOSH, I almost forgot.....

Today is UK GAME DAY!! How could I forget?? I must give a shout out to my team, and lots and lots of luck to them for a big win over Princeton today! GO CATS!!

Mah best friends and I at a game this year. (Meg, myself, and Whitney)

Irish Blessings to You!

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

May you alway walk in sunshine.
May you never want for more.
May Irish angels rest their wings right beside your door.

May God grant you always...
A sunbeam to warm you,
A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.

May your troubles be less,
And your blessing be more.
And nothing but happiness,
Come through your door.

Coffee Filter Wreath

Well. Let me preface by saying that I am not a crafty one. I enjoy them, but usually end up annoyed, bored, or tired of doing whatever it is I'm doing. After seeing another blogger (I would link to their post, but I can't for the life of me remember who did it...) do this, I was temtped. I wanted a wreath for my front door, but WILL NOT spend $50 bucks for a wreath. I just won't do it. So I bought some supplies, and here is the process and final product. Don't judge the product too harshly; it was my first attempt! :/

[Sorry about the photos and cluttered background. I did this at work. :)]

The supplies
Wreath--$7.99
Ribbon--$1.98
Pins--$2.99
Filters--$1.97
Total spent: $14.93

I used brown ribbon to hang it. I pinned the ribbon to the back with lots of pins. I didn't want it to come off! I would have used hot glue if I had it with me.

I folded the filter in half, then half again.

Then I put three filters on each pin.

After I pinned the filter onto the wreath, I put another pin in to hold them on.

I started with the outside, then the middle, then the inside of the wreath.

I middle was kind of lacking something, so I turned it over and added another round of filters.

You could STILL see some green, depending on how you were standing and the angle, so I added the rest of the ribbon to the edges. (Not pretty from the back, but from the front, you only catch glimpses.)

I left the back plain, so it would hang flat against the door.

And here is the final product  (tested on a wall)....

And here it is on my front door.

It's not like the pictures I have seen online, and I definitely see things that I wish were different, or other ways I should have done it. But for my very first wreath for a non-crafty gal, it's not too bad, right?
